Driver of overturned car in Hilton Head traffic circle charged with DUI
A driver involved in a single-vehicle accident at a Hilton Head Island traffic circle overnight Saturday has been charged with driving under the influence, officials say.
The accident occurred around 1:25 a.m. Saturday at the Sea Pines traffic circle, according to Capt. Bob Bromage, spokesman for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters arriving on the scene found a vehicle overturned and the driver standing outside of the vehicle talking to deputies with the Sheriff’s Department, according to Fire Marshal Joheida Fister with the Hilton Head Fire Department.
The driver refused to be taken to the hospital, she said.
He was charged with DUI, no S.C. driver’s license and no proof of insurance, all misdemeanor charges. He was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
