A North Carolina woman was arrested early Sunday morning on Hilton Head Island after she allegedly punched her boyfriend in the face and kicked a deputy in the groin.

Cassandra Hernandez, 21, of Boone, N.C., was charged with resisting arrest, public disorderly conduct and two counts of third-degree assault and battery after deputies were called to North Forest Beach Drive near around 12 a.m., according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

When they arrived, deputies found Hernandez and her boyfriend outside a cafe sitting on a bench. The bridge of the boyfriend’s nose was bleeding and both he and Hernandez appeared to be intoxicated, the report said.

Hernandez told deputies the two had started arguing when her boyfriend began calling her names.

She said she felt cornered at one point and punched him in the nose, the report said.

Her boyfriend confirmed the story to deputies and said he wanted to put everything behind him and move on.

A deputy offered to call a cab for the couple and Hernandez became “very angry” and said she was going to wait and go home later, the report said.

The deputy informed her he could not allow her to drive a vehicle, and Hernandez began shouting profanities before eventually yelling “Take me to jail, take me to jail,” the report said.

At that point, the deputy informed Hernandez she was under arrest and being charged with public disorderly intoxication.

When the deputy put one hand cuff on her wrist, Hernandez allegedly took a step forward, pulled away and landed a kick with her right foot to the deputy’s groin, the report said.

The deputy quickly recovered and pulled her to the ground to prevent her escaping. The deputy noticed at that time that Hernandez was bleeding from the face and informed Beaufort County EMS before placing another pair of handcuffs on her, the report said.

At that point, a second deputy arrived and was speaking with Hernandez’s boyfriend.

While the other deputy was restraining Hernandez, she kicked the second deputy on his right knee, the report said.

Both deputies then placed leg irons on her ankles and she was taken to Hilton Head Hospital for her injuries.

She was then taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center and released later that day.
