Local police officers are being praised for going “above and beyond the call” of duty by rescuing a lost dog that was left injured on I-95 earlier this week.

Facebook user Charley H Cat posted a photo and a message on the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page thanking a Jasper County deputy and Hardeeville Police Department officers for helping rescue a dog that was struck on I-95 and injured on Monday afternoon.

“Officers went above and beyond the call in finding a vet that would take her, fishing her out of the swamp and then helping me get her in the truck,” Charley Cat wrote. After her rescue, the dog, now named Sweetie, was taken to the Riverwalk Animal Hospital to be treated for injuries.
