Hilton Head man charged in attempted theft of bar TV

A Hilton Head Island man was arrested Sunday after trying to steal a television mounted to the wall of a local bar, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

Police were called when the manager of the pub saw the suspect trying to “disconnect the wires from one of the televisions surrounding the bar,” according to the report released Wednesday.

The manager also saw the man “open a refrigerator under the bar and take a Red Bull,” the report said.

When police arrived, officers smelled alcohol on the suspect’s breath and noticed his “speech was slurred and and he appeared to have trouble maintaining his balance,” the report said.

The suspect was charged with misdemeanor property damage and theft and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

Officers at the jail then found a small amount of marijuana in the pocket of the suspect’s cargo pants, the report said.
