Sheriff’s Office investigates bomb threat at Hilton Head Island High School

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office found no explosive devices after a written bomb threat was reported to be on the bathroom wall of Hilton Head Island High School Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators have not named a suspect, but said they are “making progress,” according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The threat is believed to have been written a few hours before its discovery, the release said.

The threat indicated there was an “incendiary device” in the school but did not specify a date or time.

School officials restricted movement of the students but did not initiate a modified lock-down. Sheriff’s Office personnel along with K-9 Units searched the school Tuesday afternoon and were investigating the origin of the threat.

Shortly after the threat was discovered, Capt. Bob Bromage could not say Tuesday whether the threat was written in a boys’ or girls’ bathroom or what the exact wording of it was.

Anyone with information about the threat may call School Resource Officer Cpl. Kevin Cleveland at 843-689-4905 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
