Bluffton Red Cross assists Jasper County fire victim
A 59-year-old Gillisonville man is being assisted by the American Red Cross in Bluffton after his mobile home was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday.
Firefighters from the Ridgeland Fire Department and Grey’s Community responded to the blaze around 2:30 p.m. and found nothing left to save by the time they arrived at the Langfordville Road residence, according to a Red Cross news release.
The victim said he discovered the fire after he closed his front door and got in his truck to leave. He heard a loud pop and saw smoke coming from the roof.
When he opened the door, smoke and flames made him back out. He was unable to save any of his possessions, the release said.
The man was the only occupant of the home and was not injured.
He is being provided with financial assistance for two nights in a hotel and food for a week, the release said.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
