A painting stolen during the theft of a $20,000 guitar from a band playing at a Hilton Head Island restaurant was recovered in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday.

The $1,000 painting was turned in to the Myrtle Beach Police Department by a friend of 24-year-old Michael Triarsi of New York, who was charged with theft Tuesday after he was caught taking the one-of-a-kind guitar on surveillance Sunday at The Rooftop Bar at Poseidon, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release said. The theft occurred during a show put on by Hawaiian-based singer-songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter, according to the release.

The video showed a man taking the guitar from Poseidon’s backstage and quickly leaving the bar in a silver Jaguar, which investigators were able to identify as belonging to an Uber driver, the release said.

Interviews with the Uber driver and other witnesses led investigators to identify Triarsi, who was on a flight back home.

Authorities in New York contacted Triarsi’s family members at his residence and Triarsi eventually called investigators and made arrangements to fly back to Hilton Head to recover the stolen items from friends to whom he said he gave them.

He returned Frankenreiter’s guitar to the Sheriff’s Office himself and turned himself in, the release said.

He was charged with one count of grand larceny for the theft of both the guitar and the painting and his bond was set at $20,000.

Triarsi posted bond Wednesday morning at the Beaufort County Detention Center, the release said, and remains the only person charged in the incident.
