Six boaters rescued from Hilton Head waters

Four children and two adults were rescued from a broken-down boat off Pinckney Island on Monday night.

Beaufort Water Search and Rescue received the call about 8 p.m. and launched two boats from the Chechessee River boat landing. The boaters did not know where they were in the dark, but were able to communicate with the search and rescue by cellphone.

After searching Mackay’s Creek and the Colleton River area, the group expanded their search and located the disabled boat off the mouth of Skull Creek going into Port Royal Sound. They towed the boat to a nearby landing.

All parties returned safely.
