ID still sought in Jasper County pedestrian fatality

Jasper County officials are still working to identify a pedestrian killed Saturday morning on U.S. 17.

Many people have called the Jasper County Coroner’s Office inquiring about their missing loved ones, and whether they could be the man struck and killed by a car shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday, but no match had been made as of 6 p.m. Sunday, the office said.

The victim, a black male, was struck while walking in the roadway about a mile from the Georgia state line, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

He is about 6 feet tall, with a slender build, and a medium-brown complexion, and was wearing a multicolored T-shirt, khaki-colored pants and a lanyard with a number of keys around his neck.

He appears to be about 30-35 years of age, but could be younger, Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls said.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity may call the coroner’s office at 843-815-5535.
