Bluffton volunteers to test, replace smoke alarms on Saturday

The American Red Cross and Bluffton Township Fire District are teaming up to test and replace smoke alarms for residents in Bluffton’s Buck Island-Simmonsville and Goethe road neighborhoods.

Volunteers will go door-to-door to approximately 300 homes to install free smoke alarms in homes that currently have none.

They will also test alarms already in place and replace batteries where needed.

Smoke alarms more than five years old will be replaced for free.

Volunteers will distribute fire safety education materials and help families develop a fire escape plan.
