Shot fired into Hilton Head apartment
Fragments of a bullet were pulled from the wall of a Hilton Head Island apartment late Feb. 9 after a resident said a man pointed a gun at her brother in the building’s hallway.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the apartment on Southwood Park Drive around 11:30 p.m. where they found a broken window and a suspected bullet in a wall, according to a Sheriff’s Office report that was public Monday almost a week after the incident happened.
A woman living in the apartment told deputies she was sleeping when she heard loud banging on the door and asked her brother to see who it was.
The woman said her brother opened the door and saw a short black man without a shirt standing at the end of the hallway pointing a gun at him, the report said.
Her brother came back inside. The woman then heard a loud bang and noticed her window was broken.
When asked by deputies, the brother refused to provide a written statement and said no one was there when he opened the door.
Other witnesses said they heard two men arguing outside and that at least two or three shots were fired, the report said.
No one was injured and a suspect has not been named, the report said.
Deputies believed the fragments found in the wall belonged to a small-caliber bullet.
