Man sentenced to 10 years for 2014 Bluffton bank robberies

A 42-year-old Bluffton man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to robbing two Bluffton banks in the summer of 2014, according to a news release from the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office.

James Gable pleaded guilty Thursday to robbing the TD Bank on Fording Island Road on July 14, 2014, and the SunTrust Bank on Westbury Park Way on Aug. 22, 2014.

Gable never displayed a weapon, but told the bank tellers he had a gun, the release said.

He and an accomplice were arrested four days after the second robbery in a hotel in Pooler, Ga.

The two men unsuccessfully tried to hide under the covers in their hotel room from the U.S. Marshals who located them, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said at the time.

Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles sentenced Gable to 10 years for each bank robbery, to be served concurrently, the release said. Gable is not eligible for parole.
