Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue awarded federal grant
The Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue District has been awarded a federal grant to purchase 12 cardiac monitors.
The $471,306 grant, awarded through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, will allow the department to update its current monitors, according to a department news release.
The monitors are used by paramedics to monitor a patient's heart rhythm during medical emergencies and to transmit the data to the local hospital.
The grant will cover 90 percent of the cost of the monitors. The final 10 percent will be taken covered by the Hilton Head Island Town Council, the release said.
