Juvenile petitioned to family court for Hilton Head Christian bomb threat

A juvenile was petitioned to Family Court on Friday for allegedly making a false bomb threat at Hilton Head Christian Academy in December.

The school was placed on lockdown Dec. 3 after several students received an email that said, "better stay away from the chapel, you wouldn't want to go boom," according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

The students brought the email to the facility's attention, and the Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordinance Team was called in to search the school.

No explosives were found, the release said.

Investigators were able to identify the juvenile by examining computers and other devices, the release said.

The juvenile was petitioned to the court on a charge of conveying false information regarding the attempted use of a destructive device and is expected in Family Court in March.
