The DNA of a man accused of breaking into a Hilton Head Island restaurant in November linked him to another crime, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Alvin Johnson, 58, was charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, and assault and battery Nov. 16 after an alarm went off at Fiesta Fresh and deputies saw Johnson run from the scene, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

Johnson eventually had to be tased after he ran from deputies during that incident.

He was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The same morning, deputies responded to a report of a burglary at the IHOP on Northridge Plaza.

Investigators believed the restaurant had been broken into before Fiesta Fresh, which was approximately a mile away.

DNA evidence collected during the IHOP investigation matched with Johnson, the release said, and he was served two warrants for second-degree burglary and safecracking.

Johnson remains a person of interest in other restaurant and business burglaries on Hilton Head, the release said.
