Crash leads to fight outside Hilton Head Island bar

A fender-bender turned violent outside a Hilton Head Island bar, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

A 70-year-old Hilton Head woman was arrested for assault and battery Dec. 23 outside a bar on New Orleans Road after a woman accused her of bumping a friend's car with her vehicle.

When the witness told the driver she could not leave the scene of the minor wreck, an argument began, according to the report.

The argument escalated, and the woman allegedly punched the witness "in the face and on the right cheek," the report said.

An officer "detected a strong odor of consumed alcohol emanating from" the driver, according to the report.
