Teen charged with disturbing schools after Bluffton High was placed on a lockdown

A 17-year-old was charged with disturbing schools Tuesday after he allegedly told a Bluffton High School teacher the school was going to blow up.

Richard Jenkins was taken to the Beaufort County Detention after he said he'd meant it as a joke, according to a Bluffton Police Department news release.

The school was placed on a modified lockdown from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as it was searched, Beaufort County School District spokesman Jim Foster said. Nothing threatening was located.
