DNA evidence links Hilton Head Island man to vehicle break-in
A Hilton Head Island man was arrested Tuesday morning after DNA evidence collected from a van break-in linked him to the crime.
Arthur Garfield, 51, was charged with breaking into a motor vehicle and petit larceny after an Audio Video Outfitters work van was broken into on Hunter Road between Nov. 6 and Nov. 9, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
Tools valued at more than $800 were taken, the release said.
The Forensic Services Laboratory reported it had developed a male DNA profile from evidence collected at the scene, and matched it Garfield, the release said.
Garfield is a person of interest in numerous recent property crimes reported on the north end of Hilton Head, the release said.
He was arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, the release said.
