Investigation ongoing for attempted Bluffton drug deal shooting

The 23-year-old male victim of an alleged drug deal gone wrong remained in a Savannah hospital Monday after he was shot multiple times inside a vehicle on East Morningside Drive in Bluffton's Sandy Pointe neighborhood Saturday night.

A witness inside that vehicle told Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators the victim was shot by one of two African American men seated in the back seat during a transaction around 8 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office news release.

The men in the back seat ran away after the victim was shot and the witness drove him to a family member's house in Hardeeville, where emergency personnel responded, the release said.

He was later taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

Investigators found spent cartridge casings at the scene and other evidence that will be examined further, the release said.

They are working to identify the two suspects, but a detailed description is not available, the release said.

Anyone with information about the shooting or identities of the suspects can call Investigator Cornillus LaVan at 843-255-3427. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
