1 dead in fire this morning on Hilton Head Island

One person died in a fire early this morning at a home on Hilton Head Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

At about 4: a.m., the Sheriff's Office and Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a structure fire on William Hilton Parkway. The fire was extinguished a short time later, and it was confirmed that one individual perished in the fire, a sheriff news release said.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office, SLED and Hilton Head Fire & Rescue are on the scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire, as of 7:45 a.m.
