$5,000 in change stolen from Hilton Head home

A plastic bottle containing about $5,000 in loose change and money was taken Friday from a home on Hilton Head Island.

Deputies were unable to find any signs of forced entry to the home on Oleander Street, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

The resident told deputies he arrived home Saturday morning to find the 5-gallon Culligan water bottle with the change inside missing, along with two personal checks, the report said.

The man said he had been saving the money for several years.
