Hilton Head man tased, charged with trafficking cocaine and resisting arrest

A Hilton Head Island man was tased and charged with resisting arrest and trafficking cocaine after he reportedly fled from deputies in an incident outside a local bar Friday night.

McKinley Robinson Jr., 37, was arrested on multiple charges following the incident, which occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in the parking lot of Mickey's Pub, 435 William Hilton Parkway, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office on Saturday afternoon.

According to the release, two men sitting in a parked vehicle got out of the vehicle and began walking quickly away after a deputy approached them and a third man standing outside the vehicle.

One of the men walking away from the vehicle allegedly was carrying a liquor drink, the release said. The deputy approached the man, later identified as Robinson, to issue an alcohol violation.

During the stop, Robinson allegedly put his hands in his pockets and continued to do so after he was warned not to by the deputy. The deputy tried to put Robinson in handcuffs, but he allegedly broke free and ran away.

The release said the deputy tased Robinson, who was then apprehended and arrested.

A K-9 unit was called and indicated the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. Multiple baggies of what is suspected to be cocaine were found in the vehicle's console, the release stated.

Robinson was charged with trafficking cocaine, resisting arrest, fleeing to evade and open container.

He was taken to the sheriff's office substation on Hilton Head then later taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
