Brian Allen Jr., 22, was arrested around 9 p.m. at the Magnolia Motel in Hardeeville on arrest warrants in connection with the death of 30-year-old Charles Miller of Hilton Head. The arrest was made by the Hardeeville Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office release.

A handgun was recovered during Allen's arrest when investigators searched his hotel room, the release said.

The weapon is believed to be the same caliber as the handgun used to kill Miller and will undergo ballistic and forensic examination, the release said.

Investigators said the motive for Miller's death may have been an armed robbery, the release said.

Capt. Bob Bromage said Friday Allen is "well known" to county law enforcement.

Allen's previous charges in Beaufort County range from 2010 to 2013 and include armed robbery, pointing and presenting a firearm, burglary, assault and battery and receiving stolen property, according to the court's website.

Allen is also a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred three weeks ago in Jasper County, the Sheriff's Office release said.

Investigators were able to identify Allen as the suspect in Miller's death with the help of nearby witnesses, Bromage said.

Miller was standing in front of a residence when he was shot to death. Further investigation revealed the gunman was on foot, Bromage said.

The incident remains under investigation, and Allen will be interviewed by the Sheriff's Office and Hardeeville Police Department, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Allen is being held at the Jasper County Detention Center, the release said.

Anyone with information about Miller's murder can call Master Sgt. Andres Florencio at 843-255-3305 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
