A 17-year-old Bluffton High School student was arrested Monday morning on a charge of disturbing schools after a group text message he sent said he had heard someone was going to "shoot up" the school that day, according to police.

The student admitted to officers he had sent the message, but that he was "only joking," a Bluffton Police Department news release said.

The student was charged with disturbing schools, a misdemeanor, and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
