A Hilton Head Island man has been charged in connection with a wreck that seriously wounded his passenger Saturday night, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Brock Knafel, 28, was charged early Sunday morning with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury in connection with his one-vehicle accident on Arrow Road just after 8:36 p.m., Trooper Hannah Wimberly said. Knafel had been traveling north when his 2007 Cadillac sedan ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, she said.
His passenger, 25-year-old Gage Roth, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with severe injuries.
Knafel was transported to Hilton Head Hospital, where investigators drew his blood and determined he was intoxicated, Wimberly said.

Knafel and Roth were not wearing seat belts, Wimberly said. The vehicle appeared to have hit a curve on Arrow Road traveling too fast for conditions, she said.
Knafel also was charged with a seat belt violation and broken seal. He remained at the Beaufort County Detention Center on Sunday with bond set at $20,000.
