$2,500 reward offered for security guard death cold case

A reward of up to $2,500 could be awarded for information tied to the death of a Hilton Head Island security officer 34 years ago today.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about the death of George Davie, 56, who was fatally shot while standing post at the Port Royal Plantation security gate around 1 a.m. Oct. 16, 1981.

The suspects took Davie's handgun and fled, according to a Sheriff's Office release.

No suspects were identified.

The Sheriff's Office said Davie may have been confronted by suspects bringing illegal narcotics into the gated community.

However, the theory has not been proven, and Davie's handgun was never found.

Anyone with information about the cold case can contact Capt. Bob Bromage at 843-255-3402, email robertb@bcgov.net or call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
