Bluffton man charged with burglary after pawn shop break-in attempt
A 36-year-old Bluffton man was charged with second-degree burglary late Sunday night after allegedly prying open the back door of a nearby pawn shop and leaving when the alarm went off, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
A burglar alarm at the Top Dollar Pawn Shop on Kitties Landing Road went off just before midnight Sunday. As deputies from the Sheriff's Office responded, they saw a burgundy SUV leaving the area, the release said.
Bluffton police stopped the SUV driven by Bluffton resident Adam Carfield, but he was released from the traffic stop while Sheriff's Office investigators reviewed the pawn shop's security footage. The footage showed a white man prying open the store's back door, then running away when the alarm went off, the release said.
Bluffton police contacted Carfield and asked him to meet them in the parking lot of a nearby Kroger, where Carfield was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, the release said. Carfield was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he is currently being held on $15,000 bond, according to the jail log.
Anyone with information on the burglary attempt is asked to contact Sgt. John Adams at 843-255-3415 or S.C. Crime Stoppers at 1-888-274-6372 to report information anonymously.
