Hilton Head to dedicate fire station Friday

The Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division will host a grand opening for its newest fire station Friday.

The dedication of Station 6, at 12 Dalmatian Lane in Palmetto Dunes, will be at 11 a.m., followed by an open house and tours until 1 p.m. The station is relocated from a structure built in 1983, which previously served as a substation for the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and later headquarters for the Hilton Head Island Fire Department.

The new station is built to withstand a category 3 hurricane and is the Town of Hilton Head Island's first building to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
