An all-terrain vehicle driver allegedly sped away from Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies during a pursuit on the afternoon of June 23 in Burton.

Police first saw the suspect along Pine Grove Road, where the ATV allegedly popped a wheelie in front of another vehicle and almost caused an accident, according to a police report. The police then pursued the ATV driver after they turned down Burton Wells Road, where the suspect then allegedly turned into the basketball court parking area.

The police report said the driver caused tire marks in the nearby grass, and then turned and sped away, causing the police to activate their blue lights in an attempt to pull over the driver.

The chase then continued down Burton Wells Road, reaching speeds of around 66 miles per hour. Eventually, the ATV driver allegedly blew through the stop sign and turned left at the intersection of Burton Wells Road and Pine Grover Road. The officer made a complete stop at this stop sign, briefly continued the pursuit after they turned, but ultimately canceled it.

The police report says the ATV driver was wearing a head covering and could not be identified, leading to no further action being taken at this time.

A little over a month ago another ATV driver evaded police along a May 26, 2.5 mile chase on St. Helena Island.
