Body found on Hilton Head beach, police say. What we know
A body was found on Hilton Head’s South Forest Beach early Saturday morning, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
After BSCO received reports of a body found in the area, first responders arrived on the scene and found a deceased male victim who appeared to have suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, BCSO said in a statement.
Lt. Daniel Allen said he was unsure exactly what time BSCO received a report of the body, but that it was “very early morning” on Saturday. He did not share any more information about the incident.
The incident is still under investigation and did not post a threat to the public, police said.
The identity of the victim has yet to be released. Chief Deputy Coroner Michael Bowers said the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office would likely release the individual’s name on Monday.
