Arrest made in early morning Burton shooting, BCSO says
A man is in custody in relation to an early morning shooting that occurred in Burton on Friday.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jason Aiken, 37, on charges of domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent offense.
Aiken is suspected of shooting a 28-year-old female during a domestic altercation that occurred just before 6 a.m. on Friday at Magnolia Park Apartments, police said in a statement.
According to a Nixle alert sent by BCSO, both parties involved had left the scene in a vehicle by the time police arrived. They were later advised that the suspect had parked the car at a nearby business and fled the scene on foot.
Deputies located the vehicle and tended to the gunshot victim until Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services arrived to transport her.
Police set up a perimeter and located Aiken hiding on a nearby property. He was unarmed at the time of arrest.
Deputies used K-9 units, or police dogs, to locate a firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
