Delivery driver charged with felony burglary after returning to Sun City home
A man who asked to use a Sun City resident’s bathroom while delivering packages earlier in the day later returned and was found standing inside her home that night, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Kamel Triplett, 24 of Hinesville, Georgia, was charged with first degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. In South Carolina, burglary in the first degree is a felony punishable by up to life in prison. It implies the person entered a home without consent and with intent to commit a crime.
He was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center on Jan. 30 and remains in custody. A police report related to the case remains almost entirely redacted.
But a BCSO spokesperson, Lt. Daniel Allen, was able to provide some details related to the case.
On the afternoon of Jan. 17, a man who was delivering packages for Amazon in Sun City asked a resident if he could use her bathroom. The resident told police she had seen the same employee earlier in the day, but that she otherwise did not know him. The man used her restroom and left her house, she told police.
When she was getting ready for bed hours later, she looked up to find the same man standing in her house. They exchanged words for several minutes, and the man ended up leaving. She was not physically harmed during the encounter, but the man was in possession of a knife. The woman called a friend, who then called neighborhood security.
Pending court, the case is considered closed, Allen said. A preliminary hearing was held on Feb. 26, according to court records.
