At least 9 homes burglarized by hooded suspects in northern Beaufort County
There has been a string of home burglaries in northern Beaufort County, and deputies are asking neighbors to review home surveillance cameras for anything that could be helpful in their investigation.
At least nine homes on Lady’s Island and St. Helena Island were broken into in a three-day span between Saturday and Monday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Items reported stolen include liquor, power tools, firearms and other valuables.
A collage video of surveillance footage shared by police shows groups of suspects — all wearing hoodies or facial coverings — rummaging through one home and another clip shows suspects looking into parked cars with a flashlight. In one clip, the people are seen walking through a yard when they appear to spot the security camera, duck down and slink out of frame.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Daniel Allen said the string of break-ins could “possibly” involve the same group of suspects. All the burglaries occurred “under the darkness of night,” police said, and homeowners also reported property damage as a result of the break-ins.
Police are asking residents of Lady’s and St. Helena islands living near the scenes of the reported break-ins to review their home surveillance footage “for any suspicious activity” over the three-day period.
“Even small details may be helpful to the investigation,” read the sheriff’s office alert sent Thursday afternoon. “Your information could help bring those responsible to justice.”
Anyone who recognizes the people in the surveillance videos or has information about these cases is encouraged to contact the investigator, Cpl. Phillips, at 843-255-3430.
