Bluffton crews on scene of devastating mobile home fire. Expect traffic delays

A single-wide mobile home in Bluffton caught fire and was declared a “total loss” Tuesday afternoon. Fire crews said travelers should expect delays on the busy route where it happened.

The only occupant of the home on Simmonsville Road escaped unharmed after the blaze began around 2 p.m., according to the Bluffton Township Fire District. Firefighters had extinguished the fire as of 3:30 p.m., department spokesperson Stephen Combs said.

Fire crews were blocking the southbound lane of Simmonsville Road near its intersection with New Mustang Drive, Combs said. Traffic congestion in the area is likely to extend into the evening rush hour.

Investigators were still looking inside the home to determine the cause of the fire, according to Combs.
