Fire extinguished after reported blaze on 2nd floor of Bluffton apartment

The Bluffton Township Fire District quickly controlled a reported blaze at the NextLoft apartments early Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

Officials asked residents to avoid the area of the complex, located at 1376 Fording Island Road between the two Tanger Outlets. Those in the area should expect a “heavy first responder presence,” the fire district said.

The fire was contained to a single apartment unit on the second floor of Building 1 and had been extinguished as of 1:45 p.m., according to department spokesperson Stephen Combs. No one was in the apartment at the time, he said, and fire crews were now focused on removing water from the unit.

This report will be updated.
