Police investigated reports of a person in distress on the Mcteer Bridge Wednesday morning, but were not able to find any evidence that there was one.

No individuals have been located in the water, near the bridge connecting Port Royal and Lady’s Island. However, “out of an abundance of caution,” emergency personnel conducted a thorough search of the area, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

As of 11:15 a.m., police had already cleared the area, according to spokesperson Lt. Daniel Allen. Police still advise for boaters and motorists in the area to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

The bridge does have a one-mile walking path with a view over the Beaufort River.
