Bluffton man charged with drawing gun on teen boy riding e-bike

A Bluffton man was arrested early this week after allegedly drawing a gun on a 15-year-old boy riding an e-bike in his neighborhood, police said.

Andrew Nelson Dorr, 56, was charged Sunday evening with pointing and presenting firearms at a person.

It happened as the boy and his friends rode e-bikes around 3 p.m. Sunday in the Pine Ridge neighborhood, located off Buckwalter Parkway and south of Bluffton public schools’ campus.

Security footage provided to police by Dorr captured the suspect’s “verbal altercation” with the teen. The video then showed Dorr walking from his property with a handgun in his right hand, along with audio of the man “racking the slide” to chamber a round, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

Dorr could then be seen walking back toward his home while threatening the child, authorities said.

Prior to his arrest, Dorr reportedly told police he had “ongoing issues” with children riding e-bikes on the street in front of his house.

The teen victim told officers that before the firearm was drawn, Dorr had gotten into his car and “chased” the kids, trying to run them off the road before he returned home. That part of the victim’s story is “unconfirmed,” according to the BPD.

Dorr was released Monday evening from the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond, according to court records.

The Pine Ridge community has previously grappled with the use of electric bikes. In July, its board of directors said the neighborhood had seen increased attention from police because of “unsafe riding” and urged children riding electric bikes, motorcycles or hoverboards to use designated paths instead of roadways.
