Update: Hilton Head Christian Academy reopens Wednesday after threat found on desk

Update: Students returned to Hilton Head Christian Academy on Wednesday after the threatening message, which was written on a desk, was determined to be noncredible.

Hilton Head Christian Academy, a private Christian school in the Bluffton area, was closed Tuesday after administrators received a “message of a threatening nature” the day prior.

Police would review the situation during the campus closure, Head of School Doug Langhals wrote in a message to parents and guardians on Monday.

The K-12 school sits near the intersection of Bluffton and Buckwalter parkways, north of the campus for Bluffton public schools. It relocated in 2021 from its former campus on north-end Hilton Head Island, which was demolished to make way for new apartment homes.

“We are deeply grateful for your trust and prayers,” Langhals wrote. “We will provide updates as we are able and communicate next steps (on Wednesday).”

A spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department, which has jurisdiction over the school, did not immediately respond to questions Tuesday morning.
