Man shot to death at Burton trailer park. ‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect at large

Update: Police located the Jeep belonging to Tyre Atkins as the manhunt continued, the sheriff’s office said around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are searching for a suspect considered to be “armed and dangerous” after a fatal shooting Wednesday night at a mobile home park in northern Beaufort County.

The alleged gunman was identified as St. Helena Island man Tyre Joe Atkins, 21. Beaufort County deputies say he is 5-foot-10, 170 pounds and was last seen driving a 2015 blue Jeep Cherokee with South Carolina license plate 4467TA.

Gunfire was reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Independence Mobile Home Park, located on Shanklin Road near the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

Deputies arrived to find a man who had died from multiple gunshot wounds. He was identified as Ty Haskell Jenkins IV, 20, of St. Helena, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
