Update: Nothing suspicious found after bomb threat at Bluffton Target

7:30 p.m. update: Police were clearing the scene near the Bluffton Target after “nothing suspicious” was found in the area, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police responded in large numbers to Bluffton’s Target location Tuesday afternoon following a threat of a possible “explosive device” at the pharmacy inside the store.

The CVS Pharmacy inside the Target store, located at 1050 Fording Island Road, received a phone call with the threat at 3:11 p.m., alleging the explosive device was inside their mailbox, according to Master Sgt. Robert Herlong of the BCSO.

Target requested an evacuation of the store and the building was fully evacuated by 4:10 p.m., Herlong said.

The sheriff’s bomb squad was also asked to check the standalone CVS location across the parking lot from Target, located at 1006 Fording Island Road.

Police were still asking the public to avoid the area as of 5:45 p.m. as they continued to process the scene.
