A vehicle fire is causing traffic headaches during rush hour on Highway 170 on Lemon Island Friday morning.

The fire was reported at about 8 a.m. by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office near Widgeon Point, just past the Broad River Bridge, the main connector between northern and southern Beaufort County.

The right lanes northbound and southbound are blocked, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Motorists are advised to use caution and to expect delays when traveling through the area. Beaufort County traffic cameras show a long line of cars backed up.

At about 8:50 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office reported an accident on the Lemon Island side of the Broad River Bridge that was blocking both westbound lanes of Highway 170.
