Expect delays: Bluffton accident shuts down eastbound lanes of U.S. 278

Just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, an accident near Moss Creek Drive in Bluffton shut down the eastbound lanes of U.S. 278 heading toward Hilton Head Island.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office warns drivers to anticipate delays when driving the heavily-trafficked highway.

Master Sgt. Bob Herlong of the Sheriff’s Office said that as of 4:10 p.m., traffic was backed up from the accident about three miles to Malphrus Road near the Chick-fil-A. Herlong did not have any further details regarding the accident.
