Man fatally shot at ‘Sunday Funday’ party in northern Beaufort County

Deputies are searching for a suspect after gunfire erupted at a “Sunday Funday” party in the Sheldon area, killing a 33-year-old man from Yemassee.

Rashaun Snell was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Attendees told police they heard six to eight shots ring out inside the residence before the gunman fled in his green sedan. After fleeing, he crashed the car in a neighboring yard and ran away with what looked like a pistol in his right hand, according to witness statements documented in a police report.

Multiple witnesses said they saw the suspect enter the dwelling to get a cigarette before “exchanging words” with Snell. The fatal gunshots rang out shortly after, prompting many attendees to quickly drop to the floor.

The gathering took place at a home on Kelly Road, a residential street located off U.S. 27/21 (Trask Parkway) about 5 miles southeast of Yemassee.

Police arrived just before 8 p.m. Sunday to find a “very large crowd of people” near the street, some of whom “directed deputies to a building” the incident report says. Inside, they found Snell’s body.

Several witnesses reported they knew the identity of the gunman and said he didn’t typically attend events of that type, according to the incident report.

No one had been arrested in connection with the murder case as of noon Monday.
