Update: Beaufort County dispatch line operational after phone outage Tuesday

Update: As of 11:30 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said its main non-emergency number, 843-524-2777, was once again operational.

A phone outage Tuesday morning affected a number of government buildings in Hardeeville and the dispatch system at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Officials in both counties said 911 services were still working.

Beaufort County residents who are not experiencing an emergency can call one of the following alternate numbers until further notice, police said:

  • 843-255-4092
  • 843-255-4093

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Danny Allen said the interruption was caused by a CenturyLink service outage, but the agency has backup phone lines for situations like these.

Nationwide CenturyLink outages spiked around 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the website Downdetector, which tracks user-reported internet and phone outages across various providers.

This report will be updated.
