1 dead after shooting at Beaufort apartment complex Tuesday morning, police say

Beaufort police are investigating after one person was killed in a shooting Tuesday morning at an apartment complex.

The Beaufort Police Department reported a large law enforcement presence just after 7 a.m. at the Garden Oaks Apartments, located South of the Regions Bank on Robert Smalls Parkway.

Officers located a deceased person “that appeared to have suffered from a gunshot wound,” according to the department’s Tuesday morning press release.

Tuesday marked the third time in recent months the apartments were the site of a major police investigation, following the murder of a 62-year-old man in late December and a shooting that injured one person in October.

Staff from the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office had not yet identified the victim of the shooting.

With about 300 total units, the Garden Oaks Apartments were built in 2024.
