1 dead, another arrested after gunfight at Jasper County gas station, police say
A Ridgeland man is dead and another is behind bars after a shootout at an Enmarket gas station Thursday night, Ridgeland police say.
Officers responded to a gunfire call around 11:23 p.m. Thursday at the Enmarket on East Main Street, located near Ridgeland’s eastern town limits. There they found 21-year-old Ridgeland resident Rodney Lloyd Jr, who died on scene after suffering three gunshot wounds.
About an hour later, 21-year-old Nylon Chaney, also of Ridgeland, turned himself in to police in connection with the fatal gunfire. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a press release from the Ridgeland Police Department.
The shootout was fueled by a yearslong feud between the two men and involved over 20 rounds fired from their pistols, according to reporting from Bluffton Today. No additional injuries were reported.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Chaney remained in custody at the Jasper County Detention Center. Due to the severity of his murder charge, a circuit court judge is required to set his bond. Jasper County Circuit Court reconvenes Nov. 18.
Lloyd’s visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Allen Funeral Home in Ridgeland, according to his obituary. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Center and will be followed by a burial ceremony.
