Bluffton cop, police dog involved in Buckwalter Parkway crash; other driver hospitalized

Bluffton police reported a collision between an on-duty K-9 officer’s cruiser and another vehicle Tuesday afternoon. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which sent the other driver to the hospital and prompted a “precautionary” veterinarian’s visit for the police dog.

The vehicles collided around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on Buckwalter Parkway near Innovation Drive, according to Eydie Moody, a spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department. The officer is believed to be unhurt, and the other driver was hospitalized with injuries.

Additional details about the crash, including findings on which driver was at fault, could not be released Tuesday as SCHP investigates.

Buckwalter Parkway is one of the most dangerous roadways in Beaufort County and boasts an especially high rate of crash-related injuries, according to data from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

This report will be updated as more information is released.
