Confusion over Hilton Head emergency vehicles in Sea Pines: Search for Kotowski continues

Shortly after Monday afternoon’s scheduled community search for missing Massachusetts man Stanley Kotowski was canceled, confusion and rumors circulated because of the presence of the coroner’s van in an area near where the search is talking place. According to Master Sgt. Danny Allen of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Kotowski has not be found and their investigation remains ongoing.

According to Allen, part of the confusion was the proximity of the coroner’s van to the search area for Kotowski. The call for the coroner’s van was in response to an unrelated medical event. Sheriff’s department says they are continuing their search and investigation for the missing husband and father from Methuen, Massachusetts.

Allen said, “There maybe some confusion. We are in the area still actively doing our investigation. While in the the area there was another call of a deceased body being found. Some (people) may see a coroner’s van, that is not for him. Nothing else is confirmed for him (Kotowski) right now.....our investigation and search is still continuing.”

Kotowski was last seen on Friday, August 16 around 9:45 a.m. leaving a rental condo on South Sea Pines Drive where he and his family were vacationing. Kotowski was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, and he left without shoes or a phone. His wife reported his disappearance to the sheriff’s office just a few hours later. The search for him has been ongoing for eleven days.
