Update: Coroner identifies the 5 killed in Wednesday’s 3-car collision. One was a child
A rare three-car collision in St. Helena killed five people at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Sea Island Parkway and Palowana Road, just east the Exxon station and west of the Frogmore community.
The crash involved a 2004 Toyota Tundra, a 2009 BMW sedan and a 2009 Honda Accord. According to police reports, the driver of the BMW, attempting to pass the Tundra, entered the oncoming lane of traffic. The BMW then crashed head-on with a 2009 Honda. The Tundra also struck the BMW after the initial collision. After impact, the BMW ran off the right side of the road, overturned and caught fire. The driver of the Tundra was the sole occupant and was not injured.
The BMW had four occupants and the Accord had one. All died as a result of the collision. The driver of the Accord was 26-year-old Raymone Dagin, of Beaufort. The driver of the BMW was 46-year-old Mary Seabrook of Beaufort. Passengers in the BMW were 31-year-old Henry Watson of St. Helena, 31-year-old Tiera Seabrook of St. Helena and 4-year-old Jaycean Perry of St. Helena.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the agency continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
Autopsies for each of the five deceased are scheduled to be performed at the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
