Update: Illinois man named as victim in deadly HHI shooting Friday, another man arrested
Anthony Keith Chapman, a 30-year-old man from Dixmoor, Illinois, has been named as the man killed in Friday’s early morning shooting on north-end Hilton Head. Another man was arrested and charged with murder shortly after the deadly gunfire.
Early Friday morning, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 hang-up call. Shortly after, around 3:30 a.m., a gunshot victim was reported at a residence on Fish Haul Road.
When deputies arrived, they found Chapman inside a nearby home with a single fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:44 a.m., said Beaufort County Coroner David Ott, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Moses Young, 34, of Hilton Head, was arrested at the scene of the crime. He was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office and faces one charge of murder.
Investigators were on the scene as of 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to Maj. Angela Viens, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Coroner’s Office also was on the scene, according to Viens.
Ott would not say whether the deceased Illinois resident had been living or staying in the Beaufort County area. A search of public records showed no local addresses for Chapman.
Because the investigation is ongoing, additional details were not released.
